What it does
Bolt is a global mobility platform founded in 2013 by Markus Villig in Estonia, originally launched as Taxify and rebranded in 2019. Bolt operates ride-hailing, food delivery (Bolt Food), and scooter rental services in over 500 cities across Europe and Africa. In Nigeria, Bolt is one of the two dominant ride-hailing platforms alongside Uber, operating primarily in Lagos with additional presence in Abuja and other cities. Bolt Food also operates in Nigeria. The company has over 150 million customers globally and reported its first full-year operating profit in 2023. Bolt has been expanding its financial services offerings including the Bolt Business fleet management platform. In 2025, Bolt raised a new round and was valued at approximately €4.8 billion.
